This is a unique hand-formed and hand painted ceramic scarlet letter "A" necklace and earring set made by Surly Amy at Surly Ramics. The design is painted in a shiny black glaze with red and white details. 

It is inspired by evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins and his foundation's "Out Campaign" that encourages atheists and agnostics to come forward and not to hide their ideology. This design of course also references the period in history when female adulterers were shunned unfairly by society and forced to wear a scarlet letter A. The scarlet letter A has now been adopted as a symbol of pride and unity for a previously shunned and slowly emerging group of free thinkers.  

 

 

The pendant is approx. 2.25"h and has an 18" very soft black faux suede cord. The earrings are approx. .75"w x 1.5"h and have sterling silver posts. They are very lightweight and comfortable to wear.
